Think You Are Too Old for Braces? Think Again

Orthodontic work has traditionally been thought of as being confined to teens and children, but this is definitely no longer true, as more and more adults are seeking advice from their San Antonio orthodontist on having their teeth straightened.
Rightly or wrongly, society is placing more emphasis on having a nice smile and being afraid your teeth are less than appealing can negatively affect self-confidence, impacting both personal and professional life. Having a straighter smile can make a huge difference, and can let you be the person you are meant to be!
One of the things that has put off many people from having orthodontic work as an adult is being faced with the prospect of wearing a mouthful of metal and elastics. Luckily this is no longer the case, as a lot of people will be able to choose ‘invisible’ braces that no longer make it obvious you are undergoing orthodontic treatment. Invisalign orthodontic treatment is one of the most technologically advanced ways of straightening teeth.

Invisalign Braces are the Subtle Approach to Teeth Straightening
Invisalign braces allow you to get on with your everyday life while undergoing orthodontic treatment. The process involves wearing a series of comfortable aligners made out of clear plastic. The aligners are custom-designed by your orthodontist to precisely move your teeth into the correct position. They look a little like mouthguards, and are designed to fit precisely over your teeth, gently moving them into the correct position. Every couple of weeks or so, the aligners are replaced with another set to continue the straightening process. This continues until your teeth have been straightened.
The beauty about having clear braces is that no-one need really know you are having orthodontic treatment. The braces are unobtrusive and easy-to-wear. Unlike conventional braces, they are very easy to keep clean, so you can enjoy all the foods you normally eat. Although your orthodontist will recommend you keep them in for the majority of the time, it is possible to leave them out for a few hours if you happen to have a special event to attend.

The Advantages of Orthodontic Work Are More Than Merely Cosmetic
Still not convinced you should be spending money on straightening your teeth? After all on the effects of this type of orthodontic work are merely cosmetic, or are they? The answer is definitely not, as having straighter teeth should help improve your oral health. You'll notice your teeth are much easier to clean properly, and you'll find it's a lot less tricky to floss thoroughly, greatly lessening the chances of suffering from dental decay and gum disease.
If you are unhappy with your teeth being crooked then it's well worth contacting our San Antonio orthodontist Dr. Beverley Bunn for a consultation. Clear braces are not suitable for everyone, but are an excellent choice for anyone whose teeth are only slightly out of alignment.
